International Metallic Materials Cross Reference

Purchasing or selling metallic materials and related services in today's world marketplace requires a keen, updated knowledge and understanding of the world's standards systems. This unique cross-reference puts the world's ferrous and nonferrous materials as classified in 59 systems at your fingertips. It's the tool that design engineers, manufacturing specialists, and purchasing personnel need to find and convert material designations into the international, national, or technical society standards system which they work with. Given a material designation in one system, using the hard copy alphanumeric cross-index will enable you to quickly find the designations for equivalent materials in other systems, all in one place, usually on a single page. The software version allows you to also search by material chemistry.

Compares chemistry to determine equivalency

The equivalency of materials in the cross-reference was determined by comparing the chemical compositions associated with each of the over 45,000 designations it contains. In those rare cases when candidate chemical compositions were found to be so divergent that they needed to be questioned, the editors used their combined sixty years of standards and materials expertise to determine equivalency based on their best judgment.

Easy to use

The International Metallic Materials Cross-Reference Database on diskette utilizes a custom search engine that locates materials by designation, secondary designation, or partial designation to find a single material and view its chemical composition. Users can customize search criteria for materials using any of the following criteria: country; agency; material class; or chemical composition, including single or multiple elements, and minimum and/or maximum percentage of any element. Users can also limit searches for equivalent materials to a specific country or agency. Context-sensitive on-screen help and extensive error checking helps to avoid searches using inappropriate criteria. Search findings can be printed out in reports containing information about materials that meet the search criteria. Using the computer will help you save time over looking materials up in a book, especially in situations where the results of the research are a listing of many materials.
